• A Major Hub for Magnetic Resonance

    Lyon is located in the heart of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, one of Europe's most active scientific and technological ecosystems. Extending from Lyon to Grenoble and Clermont-Ferrand, the region hosts an exceptional concentration of universities, research institutes, large-scale facilities, hospitals, and industrial innovation centres.
    Magnetic resonance occupies a particularly prominent place within this ecosystem. Over several decades, the region has developed internationally recognized expertise spanning NMR, MRI, EPR, hyperpolarization, materials science, structural biology, chemistry, medicine, and instrumentation.
    Today, the Lyon-Grenoble area represents one of the densest concentrations of magnetic resonance infrastructure and expertise in Europe.
  • World-Class Research Facilities

    The region hosts numerous internationally recognized laboratories and research infrastructures, including:
    • CRMN Lyon, one of Europe's leading high-field and ultra-high-field NMR centres;
    • IBS Grenoble (Institut de Biologie Structurale), internationally renowned for structural biology and biomolecular magnetic resonance;
    • CREATIS and CERMEP, major centres for biomedical imaging and MRI;
    • MEM Grenoble, a leading centre for solid-state NMR and hyperpolarization;
    • LNCMI Grenoble, hosting some of the world's most powerful resistive and superconducting magnets;
    • SyMMES Grenoble, with advanced capabilities in pulsed EPR and spin-based spectroscopies;
    • Numerous university and CNRS laboratories active in chemistry, materials science, biology, medicine, and engineering.
    Together, these facilities provide access to an exceptional range of technologies, from ultra-high-field NMR and DNP to preclinical and clinical MRI, metabolomics, quantum materials characterization, EPR spectroscopy, and advanced magnet technologies.
  • A Tradition of Collaboration

    One of the strengths of the region is the close interaction between institutions and disciplines. Researchers from Lyon, Grenoble, Clermont-Ferrand and neighbouring cities regularly collaborate through national infrastructures, European projects, doctoral programmes, and shared research initiatives.
    The CRMN and IBS have, for example, worked closely together for more than fifteen years within national and European infrastructures, contributing significantly to methodological developments and scientific applications in magnetic resonance.
    This collaborative culture has helped establish the region as a major international destination for magnetic resonance research, training, and innovation.
  • The Chemistry Valley

    Lyon has long been one of the historical centres of the French chemical industry. The Rhône Valley, often referred to as the "Chemistry Valley", hosts more than 500 companies active in chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, materials, and environmental technologies.
    The region is also home to major innovation clusters such as AXELERA and Lyonbiopôle, which connect academic research, industrial development, and healthcare innovation.
    Magnetic resonance techniques play a central role throughout this ecosystem, supporting applications ranging from drug discovery and structural biology to advanced materials, catalysis, sustainability, and medical imaging.
    For magnetic resonance scientists, Lyon is therefore not merely a conference destination: it is a city where magnetic resonance is deeply embedded in both scientific research and industrial innovation.

  • Science Meets Quality of Life

    The combination of world-class research, strong industrial partnerships, excellent transport connections, and a renowned quality of life makes Lyon one of Europe's most attractive scientific destinations.
    EUROMAR-ISMAR 2027 offers a unique opportunity to discover this vibrant ecosystem while engaging with the global magnetic resonance community.
